Colorado Football: A New Era Under Deion Sanders
The Colorado Buffaloes football program is entering a new era under head coach Deion Sanders. Sanders, a former NFL star and successful college coach at Jackson State University, was hired in December 2021 to lead the Buffaloes back to prominence.
Colorado has not won a conference championship since 2001 and has not made a bowl game since 2016. However, Sanders is confident that he can turn the program around.
"I'm here to win championships," Sanders said at his introductory press conference. "That's what I'm here to do. I'm not here to play around. I'm here to win football games."
Sanders has already made a big impact on the Buffaloes program. He has brought in a new coaching staff and has recruited a number of talented players. Sanders has also created a new culture of winning at Colorado.
"The culture has changed," Sanders said. "The expectation level has changed. The belief system has changed."
The Buffaloes have a number of talented players on their roster, including quarterback Brendon Lewis, wide receiver Jordyn Tyson, and linebacker Quinn Perry. Colorado also has a strong recruiting class coming in, and they are expected to be one of the most improved teams in the Pac-12 Conference in 2023.
Sanders is known for his aggressive offensive style of play. He expects his quarterbacks to throw the ball downfield and his receivers to make big plays. Sanders also wants his team to be physical and aggressive on defense.
"We're going to play fast, we're going to play aggressive, and we're going to play physical," Sanders said. "That's our brand of football."
The Buffaloes are eager to get the 2023 season started. They believe that they have the talent and the coaching to compete for a conference championship.
"We're ready to go," Sanders said. "We're excited about the season. We're ready to compete."
Here are some of the things that Sanders has done to improve the Colorado football program:
- He has brought in a new coaching staff, including offensive coordinator Mike Sanford and defensive coordinator Kent State's Tim DeRuyter.
- He has recruited a number of talented players, including Lewis, Tyson, and Perry.
- He has created a new culture of winning at Colorado.
- He has implemented an aggressive offensive and defensive style of play.
The Buffaloes are still under construction, but they are headed in the right direction under Sanders. With the right combination of coaching and personnel, they can return to the top of the Pac-12 Conference.
